2002 Signature Grant Recipient

Jin-Wen Yu Dance: $5000.00

Jin-Wen Yu received a Signature Grant to help fund a new dance called “Flowing” which would be premiered “Intersection,” a cross-cultural, multi-media dance concert in the Spotlight Room of the Madison Civic Center.

The dance created by Jin-Wen Yu is a contemporary rendition of traditional Chinese ribbon dance. With this piece, Yu hopes to move beyond the usual goal of introducing Chinese culture and dance to the community.

He hopes to communicate with and relate to everyone in the community. Previously, Yu has often focused on creating American-style modern dance. His style has always been infused with his background in Chinese movement training, but he has never before created a purely traditional Chinese dance.
