2007 Signature Grant Recipient

Janis Nussbaum Senungetuk: $2,673.00

The Madison Arts Commission is proud to present Janis Nussbaum Senungetuk with the 2007 Signature Grant Award for her upcoming solo exhibition, Bold Visions, for which she will create work specifically to be viewed by a visually impaired audience. Bold Visions will contain ten new images of floral/garden images, using natural light, high contrast and intense color. Her large-scale prints retain the formal concerns of photography, while conveying the quality of light and color that has been altered because of her visual impairment. The scale and brightness of her work improves accessibility for visually impaired viewers. The work will be on display at the Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired, during their December 2007 Open House. Senungetuk chose this venue because this is where she has “encountered a dedicated group of people who have chosen to support the use of creativity to overcome the challenges faced by living with vision loss and impairment.”
