| Neighborhood Description: | Back in 1949, neighbors living on adjoining blocks of Van Hise Avenue, Chambelain Avenue, Mason Street and Shepard Terrace started getting together for a 4th of July block party and parade. They named their informal, close-knit group VanChaMasShe after the first few letters of each street. That neighborhood festival is still going strong today – in fact it's the longest-running 4th of July celebration in Madison – 60 years! Most of our homes were built during the 1950s-1960s. Two-story homes (lots of Cape Cod style) on wooded lots is typical. VanChaMasShe Neighborhood lies directly east of Hoyt Park. Besides easy access to a large park, our neighborhood is close to Hilldale Mall area, West High School, and the University Avenue corridor. |

| Recent Accomplishments: | - Received a City of Madison Neighborhood Grant to install a directional sign at the east entrance of Hoyt Park (2007). - Worked with MMSD to build rain garden/containment area on Hoyt School playground, in order ti mitigate stormwater runoff problems (2010). |
