Profile, Statistics and Indicators
Neighborhood Description: Eastmorland is a residential enclave of about 3,400 bordered by Milwaukee Street, Stoughton Road, and Cottage Gove Road. Built in the 1950s as a community of starter homes, the average house has about 1,000 square feet of living space on the main floor. Well-made homes, with oak floors and cabinets, makes this a highly desirable neighborhood for purchasing an affordable, quality starter home. What can't be seen on a drive-through (or bike-through) of the neighborhood is the tremendous spirit of this place. The Eastmorland Community Association (ECA) began in 1957. It celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2007. ECA has been instrumental in working to improve the neighborhood and to build relationships amongst neighbors. "Eastmorland: Celebrating our 50th Year" is a wonderful tribute to the dedicated residents that have made this neighborhood a great place to live.
Neighborhood Boundaries: Highway 30 on the north, Stoughton Road (Highway 51) on the east, Cottage Grove Road on the south, Lake Monona/Atwood Avenue and Starkweather Creek on the west
Neighborhood Statistics Indicators: The Neighborhood Indicators Project is a demonstration of key characteristics and various indicators that relate to the quality of life in Madison at the neighborhood level. Basic neighborhood information as well as housing, public safety, health and family well-being, economic, and transportation indicators by neighborhood is available.
Recent Accomplishments: -The Royster-Clark Neighborhood Planning Team and the City of Madison Planning staff met monthly for more than two years to create a "Special Area Plan" for the former Royster-Clark property at the corner of Dempsey and Cottage Grove Roads. The 62-page plan was adopted by the Madison Common Council in October 2009. The plan outlines proposed land use and development recommendations for the future of the site. This 26.6-acre property is one of the largest sites in the City of Madison to be redeveloped (2009). The NPT (Neighborhood Planning Team) is still interested in the outcome of the development of this site. They want to see the project to fruitation.

-Eastmorland Neighborhood is also working on Phase 3 of plans to add additional playground equipment to Eastmorland Park (2009).

-The City of Madison adopted the Stoughton Road Revitalization Project Plan June 3, 2008. The Plan, prepared by the Cuningham Group, P.A., represents a two year collaborative project joining east side neighborhoods, private sector business interests, local, state, and county units of government. The Plan’s objective is to create a new vision for the Stoughton Road Corridor from Highway 12/18 north to Highway 30. The Plan establishes a clear sense of place, establishes Stoughton Road as a Gateway to the City, promotes a positive business climate, connect neighborhoods, generate design standards, updates land uses and zoning patterns, and generates multi-mode transportation opportunities (2008).
