Area boundaries are mapped and described in terms of their streets on the City's Neighborhood Resource Teams website.
This area is primarily one of relatively newer housing and retail areas, yet it does contain some smaller areas of lower income persons. The largest of these sub-areas is the Wexford Ridge area, which is served by a neighborhood center funded in part by CDBG program funds. The intent of these funds is to help the center strengthen the linkages between the 246-unit housing project, which is relatively isolated by virtue of its income levels, and the larger community. Several years ago, this Section 8 new construction-assisted housing complex was in danger of being converted to market rate housing, an event that would have eliminated virtually all of the affordable housing in this area. The CDBG Program, in cooperation with the City’s CED unit, was able to provide the non-profit Future Madison Housing group with an equity injection of $1.5 million to help purchase the property, retain the housing affordability, and improve the management situation. The City provided some initial capital funding in 2002 to help the Center conduct a feasibility study, prepare specifications for a new center, and develop a fundraising campaign.
The major 2003 activities in this area will be the continued support of the Wexford Ridge Neighborhood Center, support for the Center to explore building expansion plans, and continued monitoring of the City CDBG investment in Future Madison Housing Fund's Wexford Ridge housing complex.
The North West area is also served by our community-wide core/basic activities, which are available to residents in all areas of the City of Madison.
