We're still sorting out exactly what happened in the domestic violence incident in Madison over the weekend, but we do know this: four people were critically wounded, and it now appears all will survive and perhaps fully recover.
That's a credit to the Madison firefighters, paramedics and police officers who responded early Saturday morning, as well as the 911 Center employees and medical staff at our regional trauma center. They dealt with several gunshot wounds to three people and stab wounds to another. It's not certain that in other communities with less skilled and well-trained first-responders and medial personnel that the outcome would have been the same.
The incident was tragic, as are all forms of domestic violence. But the fact that four severely wounded people, including two children, will live speaks volumes about the talent and dedication of our Madison firefighters, paramedics and police officers. They deserve our gratitude for a job well done.
