Madison Schools Superintendant Dan Nerad crushed me in the third annual Madison Family Literacy Scrabble Tournament at Hilldale on Saturday. The final score was 382 to 322. Nerad cleared his tile rack twice for 50 points each time. This is unheard of. What can I say? The guy is the Flying Tomato of Scrabble.
I do need to point out, however, that Nerad was aided by several Scrabble geeks who were volunteering at the tournament. Nitpickers will mention that the very same Scrabble geniuses were giving me just as much advice as Dan, but we don't need to dwell on the fine points.
It was a lot of fun and all for a good cause. You can learn more about Madison Family Literacy at http://www.scrabbleforliteracy.com/about.
