Sweet Cause, Bitter Taste

I am bitter about this and I won't hold back.
Every year Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority holds the "Men Who Cook" fundraiser to help raise money for scholarships. I always enjoy participating because this scholarship might be the difference between a young woman being able to go to college or missing that opportunity.
So, the cause is just but the judging is not. Every year I make my best effort. I've tried my favorite chili recipe. No prize. Another year I made Chicken Big Mamou, a Cajun crowd pleaser. Nothing. Last year it was a very sophisticated dark chocolate cookie topped with sea salt. I was shut out from the awards yet again.
But I persevere. So, this year it's back to another chili recipe, which I'm calling "Mayor Dave Chili-a-vich's Award Winning Chili." My hope is that by calling it award winning it will give the judges (which include everybody who shows up) the right idea.
You too can participate. Just come by the Fitchburg Community Center this today between 3 and 5p.m. For $25 you get to sample a couple dozen dishes and help two good causes. One good cause is helping deserving young women go to college. The other good cause is helping a deserving mayor finally win a darn prize.
