Census in Seconds
March 22, 2010 12:53 PM
I filled out my census form today. It took me 182 seconds.
It's worth the small amount of time because the census determines how much representation we have in Congress, how legislative districts are drawn, and how much support we get from federal and other programs. In fact, we estimate that for every person we miss counting, we lose about $1,000 in federal funding. That could mean less money than we deserve and need for schools, human service programs and public infrastructure.
So, we're trying to do everything we can to make sure everyone is counted. If you have trouble filling out your form for any reason, you can go to any of over 30 locations throughout the city for assistance. You can find a map, addresses and contact information for those locations here: http://www.cityofmadison.com/cityhall/census2010/documents/QACBCsitesmap.pdf.
And while I filled out my form with cameras rolling to make a point about how easy and quick it is, your information will be absolutely confidential. So, take a moment to complete your form today and send it in, and if you need help, know that it's there for you.
