Go Slow

February 2, 2011 10:29 PM

I took a ride in a plow truck this afternoon and I can tell you firsthand that our plow drivers have a tough job that they're doing extremely well. You can help them out by parking your car off the street entirely if you can and on the right side of the street (that's the odd number side tonight) if you can't.

After a tour in a plow truck this afternoon and some driving today between appointments, I can say that our streets are generally clear, but also pretty slippery. According to Streets Superintendent Al Schumacher we had a brief window this afternoon when the sun raised pavement temperatures enough to spread some salt on major arterials. But that had only limited effect.

Expect your commutes tomorrow both in the morning and the evening to be slow going. And the temperatures aren't predicted to get warm enough to make salt effective during the day on Thursday, so we can expect slippery conditions on Friday morning as well. By Friday temps in the twenties should improve things.
