Flooded Election Equipment to be Replaced on Monday

City of Madison election officials no longer need to count ballots by hand on the night of the August 9 election because replacement election equipment has been shipped to the City Clerk’s Office.
 
All 90 of the city’s AutoMark Voter Assist Terminals and 97 of the city’s 98 DS-200 tabulators were damaged by a flood on July 21.
 
Technicians will install and test the new equipment on the first floor of the Village on Park beginning Monday, August 1.
 
The City Clerk’s Office will conduct a public test of each tabulator and AutoMark on the first floor of the Village on Park, 2206 S. Park Street, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily beginning Wednesday, August 3, until testing is complete.  The public is welcome to observe this testing.  The purpose of the public test is to verify whether a machine accurately tallies the ballot styles it will be accepting on Election Day.  The public test will assess how each machine counts ballots and handles crossover votes, overvotes, undervotes, and blank ballots.
