A Reminder to LOCK IT UP!

During the month of January; The City experienced 2 cars per day stolen.  Approximately 56 car thefts were in residential neighborhoods and the vehicles were left unattended, unlocked and running.  Many vehicles are being stolen by teenagers who don't know how to drive. This is a real danger for the offender, their passengers, and/or a bystander. Spread the word Lock It Up!

Our stolen auto statistics for January of 2018 are quite eye opening.  We had 57 stolen autos in the city which is a 72% increase over Jan of 2017.   Of those, 94% had the keys in the car and 71% were unlocked and running.

As I am am writing this, another 3 cars were just stolen this morning on the west side. What a way to start February!  We need your help!  Please help us by reminding your friends, your neighbors and your family to LOCK YOUR VEHICLES!!!!"

Snow Plow Update

Streets Division crews are ready to go for the long duration snow event we may experience on Saturday. Current forecasts show it may begin snowing Saturday morning and not end until Sunday morning.

When the snowfall begins, crews will be dispatched to maintain the salt routes and sand first areas. These are the main thoroughfares, Madison Metro routes, and other critical portions of our transportation network. Crews will maintain these routes for as long as conditions require, and crews will only deploy salt or sand as needed.

All roadway users should anticipate encountering snowy and slippery conditions on Saturday. When it is actively snowing, work performed by the crews will become covered by fresh snow, and remain covered until the plow truck can complete another lap through their route.  Those using the roads on Saturday should make good choices by allowing for extra travel time and stopping distance. Remember to be alert, slow, and patient to get to your destinations safely.

As a reminder, the Streets Division will not plow all residential streets until the storm is at or near its end and the accumulation of snow on the roads requires plowing.  As of this writing on Friday, no determination has been made if Saturday's storm will require citywide plowing.

Streets Division staff will be keeping a watchful eye on the roads throughout Saturday's storm. Future updates will be provided about our operations as conditions merit.

PUBLIC SAFTY PRESENTATION

There has been much conversation around Safety in our community. Many questions and concerns have been raised by our residents. In response, I am currently coordinating a  Public Safety Presentation for our southwest side communities. Details of the two planned meetings will be forth coming. The date and location for the first presentation is confirmed. We are waiting for the second date and location to be confirmed. This will give you the opportunity to listen to the coordinated efforts around public safety.
