The Board of Estimates met Monday September 26, 2016, 4:30-11:00 pm.
Outcome of the meetings that may be of interest to District 1:

1.
Authorizing the Mayor, Police Chief and the City Clerk to sign a contract with the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) to provide Educational Resource Officers for the four MMSD high schools for a three-year term, through the 2018-2019 school.                                                                                                            ACTION: Approval of 2 year contract, with termination clause after 1 year.

2.   
FUNDING FOR MIDTOWN POLICE STATION in 2017. 
ACTION: Continue with planning for MidTown Station. Necessary Adjustments for more realistic timelines, monthly reporting to Common Council on MidTown project and reporting delays. No intended delays.

2.   
Budget amendments to remove funding for the Public Market. There were two separate amendments that would remove $1.2M funding for the Madison Public Market.
ACTION: Amendment failed. Budget for Public Market will remain. 

3.  
Add funding for Fire Station 14 on the SE side.
ACTION: Approved 

5.  
Remove  funding for police body cameras until the Ad Hoc Committee reviewing Policy and Procedures has made recommendations.
ACTION: Referred back

Presentation by Nichelle Nichols, Exec Dir, Family, Youth and Community Engagement, MMSD.
Community Schools: Concepts and Updates. Two schools, Leopold and Mendota Elementary Schools have been selected by MMSD with a grant from Madison Community Fund, to launch a pilot "community school" which will provide holistic family services, including mentoring and tutoring, access to food, physical and mental health programs, childcare, adult education and family engagement for students and families who attend the schools. Community School programs across the country are reporting improved learning, stronger families and healthier neighborhoods.

VOLUNTEER TUTORS NEEDED

Free training is being provided this Thursday, September 29, 5:00 PM at Memorial High School. Training will be led by MMSD staff. This training workshop is open to all new and continuing volunteer tutors
In as little as one hour per week, you can provide the academic coaching that a struggling youth needs to realize their full academic potential! We are seeking at least 500 volunteer tutors for the Schools of Hope Middle School Program this year. Will you join us?

Schools of Hope is a signature partnership between the Urban League, United Way, and the Madison, Sun Prairie, and Oregon School Districts. Many times and locations available to fit your schedule.

Free training is being provided this Thursday, September 29, 5:00 PM at Memorial High School. Training will be led by MMSD staff. This training workshop is open to all new and continuing volunteer tutors. Saturday, October 8; 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
