WEST SIDE ALDERS SPONSORS AN INFORMATIVE BUDGET LISTENING SESSION/VOLUNTEERS NEEDED BY CITY CLERK

September 29, 2016 12:43 PM

CAN YOU VOLUNTEER?

City Clerk:  Help Needed!  (Posted 10/8)

At least 8,698 Madison residents have cast their ballots at an In-Person Absentee Voting (IPAV) location over the past two weeks.  The number of ballots cast at the Library has been steadily increasing.  For example, there were 161 absentee ballots cast at Sequoya Library on the first day of absentee voting.  Now Sequoya Library is issuing 240 absentee ballots a day.  These numbers are likely to steadily increase as we get closer to Election Day.

Although they have wonderful attitudes about offering this service, we have overwhelmed library staff with this additional workload.  Libraries have been asking the Clerk's Office for additional help, but the Clerk's Office has fewer employees than the number of libraries we have in the City of Madison.  I have spent the past two weeks recruiting and training 170 volunteers to help issue absentee ballots at the Library, but we still need additional volunteers.

If anyone would be willing to volunteer to help the Library issue absentee ballots, I would really appreciate the help.  Here are the details:

Anyone willing to volunteer should attend a training where they will take an oath and learn each step of the process used to issue absentee ballots.  Training sessions are listed on the Clerk's Office online calendar and website.  The following training sessions will be offered this week:

Friday, October 14, 12:30 p.m., at the Madison Water Utility, 119 E. Olin Ave.
Saturday, October 15, 12:00 p.m., in the City Clerk's Office, 210 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd #103
