Economic Development Strategy, City of Madison

Opportunity to offer input into the city budget process and to enter into the budget conversation. There have been three public input sessions - the first session on a weekday morning at Monona Terrace attended mostly by developers, business people, and lobbyists. The second held at the Villager Mall. The third held at Warner Park. The Madison Economic Development Division has offered to host these economic development strategy sessions throughout the community. Let's extended the invitation to host a session on the southwest side to discuss the draft ideas from the City's "Connect Madison Economic Development Strategy."

DETAILS:  Meeting scheduled from 6:30-8:30 pm.  The session will consist of a brief overview of the strategy followed by free-roaming break-out discussions and a "priority marketplace" exercise. At check in, you will be given 10 "priority bucks." During this breakout period, you will have the opportunity to walk around the room, share and discuss ideas, and spend your priority bucks among the draft set of 8 goals in the Connect Madison Strategy. You'll have 10 bucks to spend among 8 goals. You can spend all of your cash on one goal or distribute it as you see fit among multiple goals based on what you think is most important. This will be a fun activity but the results will also be very helpful as we sharpen our focus to set priorities for implementation. You can find a link to download a draft interim report that outlines a draft set of 8 broad goals at: Here are the 8 goals: CONNECT Madison businesses with talent, capital, facilities, ideas, and new markets to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in all sectors. CONNECT Madison's prosperity, jobs, and economic opportunities to people and communities that are disadvantaged, disenfranchised, and disconnected from the growth of the local economy – with a particular focus on career paths for young people. CONNECT Madison's real estate development and redevelopment opportunities with unmet market demand and work to develop key sites and corridors. CONNECT Madison residents and businesses to their City government by making Madison a model of civic innovation CONNECT the region's robust food system to our economy and embrace food's role as a platform for community-based entrepreneurship and wealth-building CONNECT Madison's large bicycle industry cluster, identity as a bike-friendly city, and appeal as a destination for bicycle-based recreation and tourism to become the bicycling epicenter of North America CONNECT Madison with an efficient and technology-enabled multi-modal transportation system. CONNECT Madison's various creative industry sectors (arts, music, theater digital technology, graphic design, gaming design, etc.) to build stronger links between these disciplines and enhance creative industries as an economic driver and visitor draw --

Public Safety Community Forum with Chief Koval.

Meet Chief Koval and Captain Vic Wahl in a Community Forum to discuss the police department strategy for keeping our communities safe. Chief Koval has been holding these community forums throughout the community.
