Public Market, Drop-Off Site, Safety Saturday!
Madison Public Market
Work on the Madison Public Market is proceeding. There has been some significant discussion about the site plan – discussion with the property owners has moved the Market from along the railroad tracks to the corner of First Street and East Washington Avenue.
Some visual designs were also generated, although they were generally controversial leading to more discussion about how the site would actually work and what is important.
I continue to support a Public Market which is financially viable but also affordable to the vendors and the consumers. I worry that many public markets plan to solve all problems and therefore price ourselves out of the public "sweet spot". Nevertheless, there is much to do and still time to resolve these issues.
City Staff have put together the latest Quarterly Report.
East Drop-Off Site Move to 4141 Nakoosa trail (former Cub Foods)
The Streets Division drop-off site located at 4602 Sycamore Ave. is now closed for pavement repairs. The site will reopen later this year upon completion of the project.
A temporary drop-off site at 4141 Nakoosa Trail (the former Cub Foods location) is now open. The Nakoosa Trail site will be available for drop-off services during the time when Sycamore is closed.
There won't be any changes to the drop-off sites rules, hours, or restrictions with the Nakoosa site. All materials that are accepted at the Sycamore location will be accepted at the Nakoosa site, including electronics, household batteries, cooking oil, Styrofoam, clothing, and other items. All items requiring a fee sticker will still need one as well. Contractors, non-residents, and individuals with oversized loads will be denied the use of the drop-off site.
As a reminder, the sites are open for expanded summer hours, which means they're open from 8:30am to 4:30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. They're open from 8:30am to 8:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
While the Sycamore drop-off site is now closed, the east Streets Division office at 4602 Sycamore Ave. will remain open for fee sticker sales and other services. Streets Division office hours are different from the drop-off site hours. The office is open Monday to Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm. There is a visitor parking lot adjacent to the front entrance of the Sycamore office.
And in case you were wondering, the drop-off sites at 1501 W. Badger Rd. and the yard waste only site at 402 South Point Rd. will not be affected by the project at Sycamore.
If you have any questions, feel free to give the east side Streets Division a call at 608-246-4532 or the west side office at 608-266-4681.
