Construction on Cottage Grove Rd - east of Hwy 90/94

September 13, 2013 6:06 PM

All -

I contacted City Engineering this morning to be able to update you on the construction work for Cottage Grove Rd  (east of the interstate bridge) and Gemini Dr.  - Denise

There will actually be a considerable amount of work taking place on Cottage Grove Rd., but one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction at all times.  There may be some construction vehicles entering and leaving the site at times though, so that may cause some short delays.  The work will be starting next week, and it should be completed around the beginning of November.

A new street will be constructed between Sharpsurg Dr. and Cottage Grove Rd., named Gemini Dr., which will also serve the new development, so there will be a new intersection with Cottage Grove Rd.  In order to properly separate the lanes and allow for turn lanes, new medians will be constructed, along with widening and installing curb and gutter on the north side.  The sidewalk will be completed and widened along Cottage Grove Rd. between the new intersection and McLean.  With the curb and gutter, storm sewer will also be installed on Cottage Grove Rd., and new street lights will be installed in the new medians.  There will be minimal work completed on the south side.

The improvements on the north side of Cottage Grove Rd. involve widening the street, so the work will start with constructing the new lane on the north side with traffic using most of the existing road.  When the new lane is sufficiently completed, westbound traffic will move on to that new lane and work will be done on the new medians, so during the second phase the construction will be taking place in between the two lanes of traffic.
