Ordered Sidewalk Replacement Program in District 16 and District 3

July 26, 2017 11:28 AM

In 2018, the City of Madison Sidewalk Program is scheduled to do work in Aldermanic Districts 16 and 3 as part of the annual public sidewalk maintenance plan. The program provides needed maintenance and replacement throughout the City on a ten-year cycle. Engineering staff will start marking sidewalks in Districts 16 and 3 in order to get an accurate estimate for the 2018 contracts.

You can find more information in the informational brochure.

Please note, there will be plenty of time for residents to review sidewalk marks with staff in the spring of 2018, after all marking has been completed and contracts have been bid, but before work commences.

Several years ago the city also implemented the sawcutting of offset joints to the sidewalk repair program which has provided a tremendous cost savings for both the City and property owners.

One aspect of the program that is of concern to residents is the impact on trees. During the construction process City Engineering will work closely with City Forestry staff to ensure that tree roots are properly pruned to a point below the sidewalk.

If you have any questions or comments contact Bill McGlynn, Sidewalk Program Supervisor at 266-4537.
