Spring Leaf Collection

April 2, 2015 8:01 AM

Department of Public Works Streets Division Chris Kelley, Streets Superintendent 1501 West Badger Road Madison, Wisconsin 53713 Phone: (608) 266-4681 Fax: (608) 267-1120 streets@cityofmadison.com www.cityofmadison.com/streets April 1, 2015 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For additional information contact: George Dreckmann at 267-2626 Spring Leaf Collection to Begin Monday April 6th The City of Madison will begin the annual Spring Leaf Collection on Monday April 6th. Each neighborhood will receive a minimum of two collections. The spring collection is scheduled to run through Friday May 1st. There will be no fixed schedule for leaf collection. Streets Division crews will begin collecting leaves in Monday's refuse collection districts. After completing collection in Monday's areas, crews will move into Tuesday's districts, then Wednesday's districts, followed by the Thursday and then Friday refuse districts. Upon completion of Friday's refuse districts, crews will begin the cycle again in Monday's districts. It is difficult to predict when leaf collection crews will be in a given area due to the uncertainty of workloads. The Streets Division has several options you can use to get the latest information on where our crews are working and when we hope to get to a given area. You can get our best information by calling 267-2088. This number will provide you with a recorded announcement 24 hours a day. You can get the latest leaf collection update as well as information on brush collection and the yard waste drop off sites. You can also check our web site, www.cityofmadison.com/streets. "It is very important that residents not mix their leaves and garden waste with brush," Madison recycling coordinator George Dreckmann said. "Piles of mixed material cannot be collected." Brush is considered woody tree and shrub trimmings at least 18" in length. Brush is collected separately on a monthly basis from April through mid October. Brush collection information is also available by calling 267-2088. Yard Waste Drop Off Sites Open The City of Madison yard waste sites are open for the season. They will remain open through Sunday December 6th. The yard waste sites will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on seven days a week and until 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The sites are located at 4602 Sycamore Av. on the east side, 1501 W. Badger Rd. on the south side and 402 South Point Rd. on the west side. Brush is not accepted at 402 South Point Rd. The sites are for the use of City of Madison residents only. People wishing to use the sites should have some identification that shows they either live or own property in the City of Madison. Complete information is available at the City's web site www.cityofmadison.com/streets. Residents can also get recorded information 24 hours a day by calling 267-2088. 4/1/2015-SpringLeafStart.doc
