Elections Volunteer and Paid Opportunities

October 10, 2016 10:05 AM

Elections is one of the most important rights provided to us in a democracy. The responsibility of civic virtue is an essential component for democracy. Many agree that this election in particular is of utmost important.

According to the City of Madison Clerks office, at least 8,698 Madison residents have cast their ballots at an In-Person Absentee Voting (IPAV) location over the past two weeks.  The number of ballots cast at the Library has been steadily increasing and are likely to steadily increase as we get closer to Election Day.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
Elections volunteer opportunities are available to help the Library issue absentee ballots. See details below:

Anyone willing to volunteer should attend a training where they will take an oath and learn each step of the process used to issue absentee ballots.  Training sessions are listed on the Clerk's Office online calendar and website.  The following training sessions will be offered this week:

Tuesday, October 11, 3:00 p.m., in the City Clerk's Office, 210 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd #103
Tuesday, October 11, 7:00 p.m., at Sequoya Library, 4340 Tokay Blvd
Tuesday, October 11, 8:00 p.m., at Sequoya Library, 4340 Tokay Blvd
Wednesday, October 11, 10:30 a.m., in the City Clerk's Office, 210 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd #103
Friday, October 14, 12:30 p.m., at the Madison Water Utility, 119 E. Olin Ave.
Saturday, October 15, 12:00 p.m., in the City Clerk's Office, 210 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd #103

PAID ELCTIONS OPPORTUNITIES IN D17:
With less than five weeks to Election Day, we have a number of polling places that are critically short of election officials. The City Clerk will provide paid training and also day of elections pay. These are the polling areas they are looking to hire poll worker for:

HyVee,
Sandburg Elementary
Eastside Lutheran

If interested go to http://www.cityofmadison.com/clerk/elections-voting/election-officials/election-official-application to complete an application with your contact information and preferences. You can also fill out an application at the City Clerk's office during office hours. You will receive an assignment letter or email within 3-5 days. Election officials are paid $12.83 per hour and are required to take one hour of paid training prior to Election Day.
