Week of September 16 Meetings of Possible Interest to District 2

September 15, 2013 10:14 PM

The week of September 16 has items of possible interest to residents of district 2 at the Landmarks Commission, the Plan Commission, at the Common Council.  The agenda items are open for testimony from the public should you be interested in weighing in.

Landmarks Commission
4:45 September 16
Rm LL-110 Madison Municipal Building

Creation of Langdon Local Historic District – agenda item 4.
This area is at the western edge of district 2.  There was an article about this initiative in the Sunday, September 15, 2013 Wisconsin State Journal.

Plan Commission
5:30 September 16
Rm 201 City-County Building

Creating an ad hoc committee to advise the Plan Commission and the Common Council about an appropriate vision and special area plan for the Lamp House block--agenda item 6.

Consideration of a conditional use to allow construction of an addition to a single-family residence on a lakefront property at 1118 Sherman Avenue--agenda item 12.

The Tenney Lapham Neighborhood Association Council voted unanimously at its August 8 meeting to support the proposed addition to this home.

Amending Sections 28.032, 28.061, 28.072, 28.082, 28.091 28.151, and 28.211 of the Madison General Ordinances to add Tourist Rooming House to the Zoning Code--agenda item 14.

This agenda item will be referred to a future meeting.  There is a public input session scheduled on September 26 at 7:00 pm in room 260 of the Madison Municipal Building.

Common Council
6:30 September 17
Rm 201 City-County Building

2014 Executive Capital Budget--agenda item 7

The Common Council will take public testimony on the Executive Capital Budget.

SUBSTITUTE – Report of the Mayor submitting names of appointees to the lamp House Block Ad Hoc Plan Committee --agenda item 9.

Changes were made by the mayor to his initial committee member recommendations with an aim of a committee with a broader perspective and diverse background.  I will also not be on the committee because the City Attorney advised it would be best that people on the Plan Commission not serve on this committee.  The two alders proposed by the mayor for the committee are Alders Mike Verveer and Denise DeMarb.  I expect that this item will be on the consent agenda*.

Approving a Façade Improvement Grant to 827 E. Johnson Street; The Spot, Grantee--agenda item 19.

I expect that this item will be on the consent agenda*.

Creating an ad hoc committee to advise the Plan Commission and the Common Council about an appropriate vision and special area plan for the Lamp House block--agenda item 91.

This is the block bounded by N. Webster, E. Mifflin, N. Butler and E. Washington.  It has a 1903 Frank Lloyd Wright house in the center of the block which is known as the Lamp House.  A piecemeal approach to block development is not optimum. This ad hoc committee will provide for thoughtful consideration about this important heritage block.  The resolution creating the committee will be amended to  include a six month maximum time frame for development of the proposed plan.

Public Open House I – Emerson East -- Eken Park – Yahara Neighborhood Plan

6:00 September 18, 2013

Bashford United Methodist Church
329 North Street

This impacts the far east side of District 2.  It is the first step in developing a neighborhood plan which will include the part of District 2 on the east side of the Yahara River as well as parts of District 12.

*Consent agenda--The consent agenda includes many agenda items that come to a vote without testimony or Council discussion.  Should anyone register and wish to speak, the item would be taken off the consent agenda.
