Agenda: https://madison.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=A&ID=274108&GUID=D2797E81-CFB7-4932-AEA3-1E222819FAD6

The City of Madison has requested proposals to undertake a significant mixed use development comprised of commercial, hotel, residential, retail and restaurant uses combined with bicycle and public parking facilities on a prominent two-block site in the heart of the City's central business district between the Capitol Square and the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. Known as Judge Doyle Square, the site includes the Madison Municipal Building block and the City-owned Government East parking facility, which will be replaced as part of the project.

The Judge Doyle Square Committee, a citizen committee created by the City Council to oversee the development process, is reviewing the two proposals received to develop the project. Public comments on the Judge Doyle Square project are invited at the committee meeting on November 11, 2013. Background information on the project and detailed information on the two proposals are available at http://www.cityofmadison.com/planning/judgedoylesquare/.

You can also read an article about the development by Dean Mosiman in the October 6, 2013 Wisconsin State Journal:

Lamp House Block Design Workshop
5:00 November 12, 2013
Rotunda Studio, Overture Center

This is an opportunity to share ideas regarding the future of the downtown city block that houses the historic Lamp House. This block is bounded by N. Webster, E. Mifflin, N. Butler, and E. Washington Avenue.

The Lamp House was designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1903 for his childhood friend Robert Lamp. The home was described as having an urban setting given a suburban flavor by the landscaping and a roof garden. Wright used the cube-like shape and efficient floor plan in a number of his later designs.

A Lamp House Block Ad Hoc Plan Committee has been established and this group will be using input gathered at the design workshop to help them guide their future land use and design recommendations to the Plan Commission and Common Council.
