Tips for managing Move-in and Move-out day during E. Johnson construction

August 9, 2014 1:37 PM

Moving day is pretty crazy in a "normal" year, which is part of the excitement! This year, the road construction on E. Johnson St. will make things all the more adventurous.

Here is some information and tips for making it all work:

  • Construction WILL be happening on August 14th and 15th
  • Construction WILL NOT be happening on the 16th and 17th
  • Work with your landlords to see if moving in or out can be saved for the weekend.
  • Construction hours the 14th and 15th are expected to be 7:00 am – 5:00 pm.  Try to get ahead of when workers arrive or hold off until they are done for the day. You WILL have access to Johnson St. even while construction is happening.
  • Construction crews are going to consolidate work as much as possible, mostly working on the north side of East Johnson Street between Butler and Blair Streets. There will be very limited, if any work, taking place on the south side of East Johnson Street east of Paterson Street
  • Access to driveways will be maintained even on blocks being worked on.
  • It is ok to pull into/park for loading/unloading on the non-travel lane on blocks not being actively worked on. Plus you can make use of cross streets.
  • The crews are well aware this is moving day and will work with you to pull over on blocks being worked on, just be sure to safely get their attention.
  • Be aware there will be private utility crews working on the North side of Johnson between Hamilton and Hancock.
  • As with move-in and move-out days in any year, staying hydrated, being patient, helping out strangers that will be your new neighbors and keeping focused on how great it will be to live in your new place will all go a long way toward getting through the hard parts.
