Tomorrow is the big night!

November 13, 2016 9:51 PM

Hi neighbors,

Wanted to send out a quick pre-budget meeting(s) message. I sympathise that it is hard to process that we have so much going both nationally and locally last week and this week. As your alder, it's part of my job to keep truckin' and give each element of and amendment to our budget (there are dozens) thorough consideration, and you can bet I will do that.

Major amendments to the capital budget continue to include the Midtown Police Station, an additional fire station for the southeast side, the Public Market, and reconstruction of Monroe Street (the actual street, not the neighborhood in general).

Major amendments to the operating budget, which includes things like salaries and benefits, includes staffing the Midtown Police Station, fully funding our Restorative Justice Program, and a 1% pay increase for municipal employees. Since the rate of inflation is 1.5% a 1% pay increase is for most intents and purposes in line with basic standards.

The link to our agenda for tomorrow evening is here, and from there you can find links to the proposed budget and budget amendments. I will be checking my email right up until the meeting begins, and probably a time or two during, and I of course welcome your thoughts.

Better yet, please feel welcome to join us for all or part of the meeting. Our normal council chambers are in use tomorrow evening so we will be deliberating over at the Monona Terrace (read: comfier chairs for residents). Come on over..feel free to bring an extra coffee for me

Thank you for keeping in touch throughout this months long annual process. We are almost there.

Your alder,
Amanda M-M Hall
