Streets and Roads and Happy New Year

December 29, 2017 2:26 PM

Hi Neighbors,

A few street and road updates this afternoon-

Streets, Plowing, and Snow

I want to pass along our latest streets updates. I encourage you to follow @MadisonWinter on Twitter for the latest updates. For those of you who do not use Twitter, please note that Twitter is completely free and you could easily join.

Updates:

All roadway users should once again be prepared for a snowy and slippery evening commute on Friday as forecasts are calling for another dose of snow.

The Streets Division will have 32 crews out to treat the salt and sand first routes. This deployment will be on the roads when snow begins and they will stay on through the after-work rush hour and into the evening.

The roads will be monitored carefully.  Another deployment of Streets Division operators will be ready to work through the night and into Saturday morning if road conditions require.

All roadway users, from drivers to bicyclists, should anticipate encountering snowy roads and maybe even some slick areas on their travels through the city tonight. Everyone should therefore continue making good winter commuting choices. Allow for extra travel time and extra braking distance. Please be alert, patient, and slow so everyone can arrive to their destinations safely.

Milwaukee Street and I-94

Speaking of roads, you may have seen an article this week in the Wisconsin State Journal regarding the study of an interstate on/off ramp at Milwaukee Street. This is the same study which was part of the budget back in November. There's nothing new to report with regards to that, but for a review of the facts and some pros and cons to consider, please see my district blog post on it from October of this year.

Finally, have an enjoyable New Year and a peaceful and prosperous 2018

All the best

Amanda Hall
