Updates on the 2 deaths in our neighborhood this morning

April 1, 2018 6:04 PM

Dear neighbors,

I've just attended Police Chief Koval's press conference regarding the two deaths on Meadowlark Drive early this morning and wanted to be in touch with updates.

The two deceased are a 33 year old man and his father, both of whom resided at that home. The weapon was a single semi-automatic gun, which has been secured, and the chief stressed that there is no danger or threat to the neighborhood at this time.

MPD's forensics examiners and our medical examiners are still pulling together details so we do not know the motivation for these violent acts.

While we don't know the motivations involved in this particular instance, logically a person doesn't just pick up a gun and shoot another person. If we know folks who are struggling, let's connect them with resources. Let's not be afraid to reach out to one another, and to check in.

Ultimately, we must hold together as a community. This has been quite a week in Madison, with this instance and others, and it can feel like the whole world is going crazy. We meet this uncertainty with the strength and resolve of our neighborhood and our community.

Talk with you soon
