Updates Ahead of Independence Day

June 28, 2018 9:53 PM

Hi Neighbors,

Can you believe we are headed for the 4th of July Week next week? This wonderful summer is moving fast.

Ahead of the holiday I wanted to talk with you about fireworks and beaches.

Naturally, it's quite American to enjoy creating explosions and loud noises :D I'm the last person to judge us for that, I sold fireworks for a couple of summers in high school and I certainly still have my favorite ones.

Keep in mind, however, most fireworks with more firepower than a sparkler are not allowed in Madison. Please be mindful, I'd hate to see your holiday fun ruined by a pricey ticket.

Next, please consider your neighbors. As you know, many of our nation's veterans struggle with PTSD which can be triggered by loud unexpected noises. As you choose where to light off your incendiaries, please give yourself enough distance so that you will not create loud shocking noises for others.

Finally, many dogs and other pets react poorly to fireworks. I found the following list of tips for helping your dog navigate the Independence Day festivities.

Now onto Madison Lakes

They are very full.

In fact, he massive rain events of the last weeks have Lake Monona pushing up against a 100 year high water mark.

And, as with all heavy rains, we've seen algae blooms in Madison lakes, including that wicked blue green algae. Most of Madison's beaches are closed due to blue green algae, but 3 remain open, Frost Woods, Stewart County Park, and Vilas. Stay safe by sticking to these beaches. For regularly updated beach info for Madison, click here. Enjoy cooling off from the impending heat at a safe beach and enjoy your weekend!

Safe and happy Independence Day wishes
