July 19 Meeting: Next Steps on Grandview Commons Town Center Development Approval

July 9, 2012 10:33 PM

Details, details with the SIP
The road to development is a long and precise one in Madison, allowing for plenty of time for advice and input, and examination before a shovel ever strikes the dry, hard dirt.

Earlier this year, the Grandview Commons Town Center proposal received approval for its General Development Plan, or GDP, from the Plan Commission, Urban Design Commission and Common Council. which meant the plans had passed based on the overall concept, site plan, and building types, sizes and placement.

But wait, there's more! Projects like this, with multiple components, also have a second phase of approval known as the Specific Implementation Plan or SIP. As the name indicates, this step reviews and advises on the details of the first two proposed buildings - the grocery store and the smaller retail building.

The development team has been meeting with neighbors who raised objections to further understand and respond to their issues, as well as with neighborhood association boards, other interested parties, city staff and Alder Johnson (D16) and me.

Now, it's time for a bigger airing to learn more about the building and landscape design specifics, share ideas and concerns, ask questions and discuss operations that affect neighbors.

Please join representatives from the City of Madison's Planning Division, the Grandview Commons Town Center development team, and east side alders to learn and discuss details and meetings for the next phase of approval for the property located on North Star Drive and Cottage Grove Road.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, July 19, starting with an "open house" at 6:30 p.m., followed by a brief presentation at 7:00 p.m., then Q & A until 8:45 p.m. The location is Messiah Lutheran Church's Fellowship Hall, located at 5202 Cottage Grove Road. Be sure to invite your neighbors! (We do not anticipate any snow interference!) Call or email with questions, and we hope to see you there.
