Public Hearing on Closing Streets in the Rail Corridor

January 20, 2012 10:38 AM

Dear Neighbor,
Wisconsin & Southern Railroad (WSOR) has petitioned the Office of Commissioner of Railroads (OCR) for the closing of three existing railroad crossings in the East Isthmus area at Blount, Livingston and Brearly Streets. A two-part Public Hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. (primarily for expert testimony) and Thursday, February 16, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. (primarily for public testimony). Hearings will be held at the OCR offices at 610 N. Whitney Way.

The City of Madison opposes any crossing closures. We consider the existing crossings safe and the resulting dead-end streets would seriously hurt neighbor-hood mobility, particularly for pedestrians and bicyclists. It would also harm businesses and the City's long-term plan for revitalization of the Capital East District.

For more information, please go to the City's FAQS. You may also contact Tony Fernandez, City Engineering, at 266-9219 or or me.
