Capital Entrepreneurs Week

April 15, 2012 11:08 AM

Capital Entrepreneurs Week will take place in Madison from April 25 - May 6, 2012. It will encompass multiple entrepreneurship and startup related events. The event will bring together people, organizations, and resources from Madison and beyond. The week is anchored by two of the premiere startup events – Startup Weekend and 3 Day Startup.

Startup Weekend Madison event will take place April 27-29. Startup Weekend is a 54-hour event where developers, designers, marketers, product managers, and startup enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startups. It is one of the largest and most well known events of its type in the world.

3 Day Startup Madison will be held on May 4-6. The idea of 3 Day Startup is simple: start a technology company over the course of three days. Rent work space for an entire weekend, recruit 40 students with a wide range of backgrounds, cater food, invite top-notch entrepreneurs and investors, and release a minimal prototype by Sunday night. The goal is to build enough momentum among a network of motivated people to sustain the company beyond the weekend.

Entrepreneurship is central to a growing Madison economy. Madison was rated as the most educated city in America, one of the top cities for young adults, and one of the top 10 cities to start a business. Younger start-ups are now growing to become a cornerstone to the Madison economy by innovating new ideas, raising capital, facilitating tech transfers from the University, and creating new jobs in the community.

To celebrate, educate and further promote entrepreneurship, the City of Madison will be participating as well. The Mayor will be visiting some of the highlighted young companies in Madison over the course of the eleven-day event.

Furthermore, later this week the City of Madison IT Department will be releasing the first, of hopefully many, City data structures. This movement into the "Gov 2.0" scene will additionally foster new web application development from community leaders in the tech community.
