Dayton Street, Students on Committees, and Construction Season

May 13, 2012 12:26 PM

The city is busy scheduling meeting and conducting routine business. Here are several announcements impacting D8:

1323 Dayton Street Update: The construction of a 65-unit, nine story student apartment received approval from the Plan Commission on May 7th, and a final public hearing will be held at the May 15th Common Council meeting. Project contains a total of 200 bedrooms and replace a 21-unit apartment building and house. The building also contains 43 underground parking stalls and 201 bike stalls.

If the project receives approval, construction will begin next Spring.

Students on Committees: The Mayor's Office is introducing the appointment of Nu Lee to serve on the Affirmative Action Committee. Nu is a student studying Social Welfare and Education Policy Studies at the UW-Madison.

Additionally, Julianna Jerosch, a student at UW-Madison, has been voted Vice Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee on Moped Parking. She is the first undergraduate student to hold a leadership role on a city committee for several years.

N Orchard & Spring Street Construction: Street and sidewalk construction will begin during the week of May 21. The project will consist of the installation of sanitary sewer, water main, storm sewer, street lighting, replacement of concrete curb & gutter, drive aprons and asphalt pavement.

Parking will be allowed on the street within the construction limits from the hours of 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. It is extremely important that residents parking within the construction limits move their cars off the street prior to 7:00 a.m. All other parking restrictions currently in place will remain in effect. Vehicles that are parked on the street within the construction limits, during working hours, are typically ticketed and towed.

Details for the construction project, including the new pedestrian lighting, can be found here
