Summer is 1/3 over but there are still many events occuring in downtown between now and the start of school. Here are a few events to have on your Madison calendar.

Lunchtime Live Tuesdays, June 19 - Aug. 7

For eight consecutive Tuesday's between June and August, a free outdoor concert series will be taking place from noon-1pm on the King Street walkway of the Wisconsin State Capitol grounds. Below is a band schedule:

Art Fair On the Square July 14-15

One of the Midwest's most popular and highly regarded outdoor celebrations of the arts will return to the Capitol Square this summer as MMoCA presents the 54th annual Art Fair on the Square. With its mix of music, entertainment, and outdoor dining, as well as more than 450 artists exhibiting paintings, prints, photographs, sculpture, jewelry, handmade clothing and accessories, and fine craft, the fair draws nearly 200,000 visitors to Madison's Capitol Square each year. This year's fair will take place on Saturday, July 14 (9 am–6 pm) and Sunday, July 15 (10 am–5 pm).

Art Fair Off the Square July 14-15

Located along Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and on the Monona Terrace Convention Center Esplanade, the 33rd Annual Art Fair Off the Square takes place July 14 & 15, 2012. Hours of the fair are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. The two day event is a showcase for about 140 Wisconsin exhibitors and includes a Kids' Craft Corner, a public art project, food, and children's entertainment. Maxwell Street Days Summer Sidewalk Sale, July 20-22

This is a 33 year-old Madison sidewalk sale on State Street. Literally these are the best deals of the summer!

Live on King Street, July 20, July 27, Aug 3 and Aug 17

This is a free Friday night concert series to support King Street businesses.

Paddle & Portage, July 21

Hundreds of participants paddle the lakes and portage across the isthmus from James Madison Park to the finish line at Olin Park. The race begins at 9 a.m. sharp with a 1.5-mile paddle on Lake Mendota, followed by a 1-mile portage across downtown Madison, to the final 1.5-mile paddle across Lake Monona.

Dane Dances, Fridays in August

Dane Dances is one of Madison's most popular summertime events! This summer dance concert series attracts an average 4,000 attendees each Friday evening in August on the Monona Terrace Rooftop. The bands that perform are popular, high-energy, local and regional bands. The music is danceable and as diverse as the people who come to enjoy the events. Funk, Latin, R&B, Jazz, Hip Hop and Reggae are all in the mix.

Jazz at Five, Wednesdays, Aug. 8 - Sep. 5

Jazz at Five, now entering its 19th season, is a downtown Madison tradition. Each year the series consistently provides exceptional free jazz concerts in a stunning locale--the 100 block of State Street, where State Street meets the Capitol Square. When the sun is shining and the music is flowing, there is no better place to be than at Jazz at Five.

Taste of Madison, Sep. 1-2

Held each year over Labor Day weekend, Taste of Madison showcases more than 80 local restaurants, 20 beverage stands and 3 entertainment stages.  The participating restaurants sell a vast variety of unique and traditional dishes to the estimated 250,000 attendees over the two-day period.  (And) Every food item is reasonably priced from $1 to $4. Admission to the event – which includes hours and hours of live entertainment – is free and open to the public.
