Council Amendments for BOE

October 19, 2012 5:00 PM

Madison's Department of Finance released budget amendments for the Board of Estimates today. Here are some notable amendments that I either proposed or signed onto, followed by the impact on the levy (the amount that taxes need to be raised or lowered):

1) Restore overtime funding for student move out in August. Levy impact: $20,072 increase.

2) Remove funding for Helping Hands Homeward. Levy impact: $25,000 decrease.

3) Reduce Civic Promotion form $20,000 to $15,000. Levy impact: $5,000 decrease.

4) Providing funding for the Program Assistant added for the pawn program. Levy impact: $64,460 increase.

5) Restore funding for lifeguards at neighborhood beaches. Levy impact: $86,664 increase.

6) Restore $900,000 in funding to the Overture Center through existing premium. Levy impact: no impact.

I have also been diligently working on reviewing the budget and options for avoiding any increases to Metro fares. If the fares are necessary, ensuring there are minimal impacts for 80 services, at-risk, and low income populations. This would include an amendment by Alder Palm for additional low income passes.

These amendments will be voted on at the Board of Estimates on Monday, October 22nd at 4:30 p.m. in room 260 of the Municipal Building, discussed at a public hearing on Tuesday, October 30th at 6:30 p.m. in the Common Council chambers and approved or rejected by the entire Council on Tuesday, November 13th at 6:30 p.m. in the Common Council chambers.
