Intermodal Transit Center Plan

Description

Intermodal Transit Center

In November, 2013, the Committee accepted the site owned by Boldt located on the west corner of Mifflin Street and Bedford Street as the recommended site for an intermodal transit center. Two other sites were identified as potential locations for the intermodal transit center, but were eliminated based on the evaluation criteria. The unselected sites are located at East Washington Avenue and Butler/Hancock Streets and the State's Department of Administration Building located on East Wilson Street.

The Committee approved the further development of an intermodal transit center concept that incorporates a five bay bus terminal with saw tooth parking and a mixed-use structure that incorporates first floor commercial space, ticketing stations, waiting space, and restrooms under several stories of dwelling units. The images provided illustrate just two of several potential layouts for the first floor of the structure. The intermodal transit center would be incorporated into a private property developed by Boldt. Further development of the intermodal transit center concept will be part of Boldt's development process.

The Consultant Team is in the process of developing landscaping and streetscaping concepts for the site and surrounding areas. The Team proposed incorporating distinct urban design elements such as unique pavement surfaces, tree grates, planter boxes, and street furniture, to create a theme around the intermodal transit center.
