One of the projects is on N. Fairchild from W. Mifflin St. to W. Washington Ave. and also includes work on W. Mifflin St. from N. Henry St. to N. Fairchild St. (adjacent to the Central Library). This project includes pavement replacement, curb gutter replacement, spot sidewalk replacement, street and pedestrian lighting, tree installation, some storm sewer work, and replacement of the water main on N. Fairchild St.
The other project on the outer loop is on S. Webster St. from King St. to E. Washington Ave. This project will also include reconstruction of the King St., S. Webster St. and E. Doty St. intersection. This project includes pavement replacement, curb & gutter replacement, spot sidewalk replacement, street and pedestrian lighting, tree installation, replacement of the sanitary sewer and storm sewer, and abandonment of an old, undersized water main and reconnection of all properties to an existing larger main on S. Webster St.
Each project includes some pedestrian improvements. Both projects will include the installation of bump outs at the intersections where possible. The S. Webster St. project will also include installation of new pavement markings and a traffic signal at E. Main St. to establish a contra-flow bike lane and an improved pedestrian and bike crossing, similar to what was installed in 2012 on W. Main St.
Madison’s Central Business Improvement District (BID) has developed Downtown Get Around Guide to help patrons find their way during these construction projects. The guide as well as other project info can be found on the City's website at: [Outer Loop Project URL]

One lane of traffic will remain open at all times on N. Fairchild St. At the start of construction, this lane will be on the west side of N. Fairchild (Library side), and will switch to the east side after work is completed on that side of the street.
W. Mifflin St. will remain open to one lane of traffic moving southbound for the majority of the reconstruction work. However, at least one closure of W. Mifflin St. will be included for approximately 3 days. Appropriate signage will be used including way-finding signs to the public parking ramp.
S. Webster St. will remain open to one lane of traffic during construction. King St. will remain open to one lane of traffic east bound. The right turn off of E. Doty St. on to outbound King St. will be maintained.
