Wingra Creek Pedestrian Bridge Replacement
Last Updated: 03/19/2019
UPDATE: Work is tentatively scheduled to begin on June 18, 2018, and to be completed by June 30, 2018, pending weather. During construction, the pedestrian bridge will be closed to bike traffic and pedestrians. Traffic on Wingra Drive and Plaenert Drive will be maintained, however the bike path on the north side of Wingra Creek between Fish Hatchery Road and South Street will be closed during the bridge replacement.
This project is the replacement of the existing pedestrian bridge over Wingra Creek, just south of the intersection of West Wingra Drive and South Street. The steel bridge beams are rusted on the underside and the bridge structure is in need of replacement. The proposed project includes replacement of the prefabricated bridge structure with a similar structure. The existing abutments (the foundations of the bridge) on both sides of the creek are in good condition and can be reused. The new prefabricated bridge will be installed using a crane and the approaches on both sides will be repaved.
A Public Information Meeting to discuss the project was held on Wednesday 12/6/17 at 3:00 PM at Strand Associates: 910 West Wingra Drive.
