CITY OF MADISON BUILDING PERMITS Q: What does this Building Permit allow me to do? A: This application is for a building permit to do only the following work:
Any other type of work must be applied for in person at the Inspection Unit Room LL-100, Madison Municipal Building, 215 Martin Luther King Blvd. Q: Is the property address my mailing address, or the address of where the work is being done? A: The property address is where the work is being done, not your mailing address. Q: Do you take applications for properties outside of the City of Madison? A: No, we do not accept applications for properties outside of the City of Madison. Please look-up the address to make sure that the address is in the City of Madison: http://www.cityofmadison.com/assessor Q: What is a dwelling unit? A: Dwelling units are separate apartments or living spaces. Q: What is a Building Use? A: See the below list Q: How long will it take for my application to be processed? A: Your application will normally be processed the next business day and mailed or faxed to you that same day. If the property is in a Historic District or Urban Design District, the approval process may take longer due to staff review, and/or need to contact the customer for details or plans.
