National EMS Memorial Bike Ride Pays A Visit To Station 4

Fire Station 4 welcomed some special visitors last week—cyclists traveling from St. Paul to Chicago in memory of Emergency Medical Service personnel who have died in the line of duty.

Making a stop in Madison on a very hot and humid day, the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride, Inc. (NEMSMBR) stopped in to Station 4 to refresh and rehydrate with food and drinks provided by UW Med Flight.

While at the fire station, everyone gathered to pay their respects to fallen EMS personnel during a bell ceremony that included a traveling memorial the cyclists carry with them throughout their tour.

In addition to honoring EMS personnel who’ve died in the line of duty, the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride also serves to honor EMS workers who continue to work despite dangerous safety conditions; advocate for a national tracking of injuries, near misses and a line of duty deaths in EMS; and promote healthy lifestyles for EMS providers through physical activity and nutrition.

After departing Madison, the cyclists continued on to Whitewater, Milwaukee, and finally to Chicago.
