Narrative

Firefighters put out a handful of grass fires near the intersection of Commercial Ave. and Sprecher Road Tuesday.

Engine Company 13 was called to the area by passersby for three spot fires near the side of the road. All were about 10 feet by 15 feet in size. Firefighters found two additional spot fires about 40 feet away.

Roadside grass was the only vegetation burning with no threat to any structures. Moderate wind conditions kept the fire from spreading quickly.

Engine 13 positioned upwind of the fires and pulled their bumper line to fully extinguish the fires. A total of about 160 gallons of water were used to put them out.

It’s unknown how the fires started. There was no suspicious activity in the area, and no obvious ignition source could be identified.
