Multiple people found themselves stuck in a stalled elevator at College Station (104 S. Brooks Street) early Saturday morning and in need of the help of Engine Company 4.
Firefighters arrived to find ten people trapped, and access to the mechanical area of the elevator system was protected by a padlock. In situations like these, firefighters depend on the ability to retrieve master keys from a secured key vault on the property. In this case, a master key to the padlock was not provided in the key vault, and due to occupant safety concerns, firefighters were forced to cut the lock.
Engine Company 4 turned off the elevator and all ten occupants inside the elevator were rescued without incident or injury.
