Chief Debra Amesqua gathers with 1st graders at
Mendota Elementary School after presenting a brand new wooden
rocking chair for use in the classroom.
The Department's Reading Rocks project
raises funds to replace broken rocking chairs in elementary school
classrooms to provide a safe and comforting setting fostering
student interest in reading.

Following the presentation, Chief Amesqua stayed
to "test drive" the new chair by reading to the
children. The new chairs were provided at cost by Ayers
Furniture of Ridgeway, and delivered free of charge. Anyone
wishing to participate in this project may send a donation to:
