Fireworks Demand Caution and Common Sense

Image: Fireworks PhotoEvery year thousands of Americans are injured in fireworks related accidents. The Madison Fire Department would like area residents to have an "injury-free Fourth".

The best way to avoid injuries involving fireworks, is to not use them in the first place. Instead, attend public displays conducted by fireworks professionals.

Anyone caught using, selling, or in possession of any fireworks in the City of Madison, other than caps, snaps, sparklers, party-poppers or snakes may be cited by police or fire officials. The citation for this offense is $1,000.

If you decide to use fireworks, please follow these safety tips:

  • Always read and follow label directions
  • Always have a fire extinguisher or water hose nearby
  • Never try to re-ignite malfunctioning fireworks
  • Never give fireworks to small children
  • Never throw fireworks at another person
  • Never carry fireworks in your pockets
  • Never take fireworks or pets to public firework displays. Fireworks are dangerous around large crowds and pets.  Dogs especially have sensitive hearing and do not tolerate fireworks very well.

USE CAUTION and COMMON SENSE to have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July holiday.
