SAFETY TOWN
The City of Madison Fire Department introduced the community to the Safety Town concept in the summer of 2004. A handful of volunteers from partner agencies and organizations staffed the program on a shoestring budget, and a new tradition was born.
This summer, the Department will once again host the program in partnership with Madison Area SafeKids at Fire Station #7, 1810 McKenna Blvd.
Safety Town is a two-week program, designed especially for children entering kindergarten in the fall, which teaches children how to be safe in their community.
Safety Town uses hands-on activities - taught in a small-scale city with streets, homes and sidewalks - to teach children about many different aspects of safety and injury prevention.
Topics include:
- Poison education
- Handwashing
- Fire safety and prevention
- Safety on the
- School bus and traffic safety
- Bike safety
- Animal safety
- Firearms safety
- Motor vehicle protection
- Choking prevention
Guest speakers and unique activities top off a great program. Snacks are included.
