The Madison Department of Public Health has been one of the founding members of the Safe community Coalition of Madison and Dane County, which officially began as the Greater Madison Safe Community Coalition in 1999.

The Coalition has obtained non-profit status (501c3) and its membership continues to grow with safety and injury prevention activities taking place across Dane County.

The Madison Department of Public Health continues to be an active member with the Safe Community Coalition (SCC):

• Executive Committee member and Board of Directors
• Data Committee (Chair)
• Working Group member and participant for SCC Injury Prevention Projects, e.g., "Walk Our Children To School" Campaign, Safety Saturday, Safe Night Out At The Children's Museum.
• Led evaluation efforts for SCC 2002 Traffic Safety Campaigns
• Three traffic safety evaluation reports.
• Fiscal agent for SCC grants from the Bureau of Transportation Safety and the City of Madison.
