Public Health Department Gives Madison Restaurants 2001 Achievement Awards

The Madison Department of Health is pleased to announce the establishments that have received the year 2001 achievement awards for excellence in food safety and sanitation. This year we have a record number of establishments that have achieved this award. 85 out of over 1000-licensed establishment have met the strict criteria for the award. The Madison Department of Health and the Safe Food Advisory Committee have decided to place the award winners in the following categories: Restaurants, Grocery/deli, Fast food, Bar and Grill and Limited food handling. The following are the 2001 Achievement award recipients:

The following criteria were used to determine the 2001 award recipients:

The establishment was open for at least 12 months under the current license. No confirmed or suspected food-borne illness within the past two licensing years. No city attorney referral for health code violations in current or past two licensing years. No reinspections were required in the current licensing year. Absence of critical item violations on the current inspection. The restaurant does at least a moderate amount of food handling. Inspection score of 10 or below, or 20 or below (depending on the complexity of the food service operation). A Certified Food Manager is on staff for restaurant operations. Confirmation by the Department.
