Gypsy Moth Control in
Madison
If you find gypsy moth caterpillars or signs of infestations, contact the DATCP hotline at the Gypsy Moth Hotline: 1-800-642-MOTH (6684).As in past years, a portion of Madison is included in the Wisconsin gypsy moth control program for 2005. This year, low flying planes will spray a liquid solution of an organic insecticide called Btk (Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki ). The active ingredient of this pesticide is a protein formed by these bacteria that reacts with the enzymes and alkaline gut of the gypsy moth caterpillars. This results in killing the gypsy moth without causing harm to humans or other animals, except for a few closely related insects. Click here for more information on the gypsy moth control program.
