Why Wash Your Hands?

Improper or no hand washing is a major cause of food borne illness. Soiled hands will contaminate food. The germs that cause illness are too small to see. Your hands may look clean, but there could be millions of bacteria and other germs on them. It is important to wash your hands thoroughly and frequently.

When to Wash Your Hands?

  • Before handling, preparing, or serving food.
  • Before handling clean utensils or single service items.
  • After using the bathroom.
  • After touching your face, cuts, or sores.
  • After smoking, eating, or drinking.
  • After handling raw meat, poultry, or seafood.
  • After touching dirty equipment, surfaces, clothing, or wiping clothes.
  • After collecting or taking out the garbage.
