| HOURS: | Must be available for late afternoon and/or evening work, as well as weekend and holiday schedules. Work is on a flexible schedule from week to week with hours varying from 0-40 hours per week. Working hours in any given week are not guaranteed. |
| GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: | This is routine manual and unskilled work involving the performance of a variety of custodial and set-up/tear-down activities for events at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. The work is performed under the general direction of Customer Services Coordinators. The work involves working cooperatively with other operations’ team members to ensure that customer needs are being met and having regular contact with the general public and customer. The work is performed in accordance with established procedures, methods, and routines and is reviewed through inspection and observation of assigned work areas. |
| EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: | Perform event conversion activities, including the set-up and take-down of event related equipment such as tables, chairs, risers, and staging materials. Move large numbers of tables, chairs, etc. from storage to event rooms and back in an efficient and non-disruptive manner. Follow written or verbal instructions and set-up layouts. Perform a variety of custodial and cleaning tasks in and around the Convention Center. Clean, sweep, mop, dust, scrub and wax floors and stairways. Vacuum carpeted areas. Clean, dust and polish furniture and other equipment. Empty waste baskets and receptacles and dispose of trash. Clean restrooms. Wash windows, light fixtures, and ceilings. Perform other cleaning and minor maintenance functions as assigned. Use fork lifts and other material moving equipment and cleaning equipment (e.g., floor buffers, waxers, sweepers, etc.) as necessary to accomplish assigned tasks. Unload and transport materials for meetings, conferences, conventions, exhibits, banquets, and other events. Perform related work as required. |
| MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION |
| KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: | Basic knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, and equipment commonly used in building cleaning operations, event conversion, and materials movement. Knowledge of and ability to operate all types of materials moving equipment such as fork lifts and cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, waxers, and sweepers. Basic knowledge of general hand and electric tools. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to clean and perform basic preventive maintenance on equipment. Ability to perform heavy manual labor such as changing set-ups for extended periods of time under deadline pressures. Ability to read and understand plans and diagrams of room set-ups. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to function alone or as part of a team and to perform standard procedures without close supervision. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with patrons, clients, and other visitors and users of the Convention Center. Ability to maintain adequate attendance. |
| TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: | Minimum of three (3) months experience performing janitorial, routine maintenance, or other related manual work. Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledges, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of these positions will also be considered. |
| NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: | Ability to lift 100 pounds occasionally and 20-25 pounds on a regular basis. |

| NOTE: | The City of Madison Benefit Package is not included/offered with hourly positions. Employment in an hourly Local 60 position, combined with employment in any other hourly job category, shall be limited per calendar year to 1007.5 total working hours for office personnel or 1040 total working hours for field personnel with the City of Madison. |
