(ORIGINAL RELEASE)
On Thursday morning, around 9:30 a.m., a masked man attempted to rob the Rocky Rococo's on Mineral Point Road at gunpoint. The suspect entered the restaurant and tried – unsuccessfully - to get an employee to open a safe. Prior to the robbery attempt employees of a neighboring business observed a medium blue, 4-door sedan, pull up near Rocky's. A man attempted to enter the restaurant, but it was locked. A Madison Police officer broadcast a description of this vehicle, and a Dane County Sheriff's deputy observed one matching it driving on Highpoint Road. The deputy pulled the car over on Watts Road. The female driver stayed put, but a male passenger ran. Madison Police K9 Johnny arrived on scene, and was able to track the suspect down in some woods near the Bishop O'Connor Catholic Pastoral Center on South High Point Road. The investigation is continuing. When the suspect is arrested, his name will be released. The getaway car driver is also talking with detectives at this hour.
