Details On Friday night, just past 11:00 p.m., a 29-year old Oak Park, Illinois man contacted Madison police about a robbery. He says he came to Madison earlier in the day to meet friends, but he could not find them. He said while he was looking for them, two men approached his 2001 Buick Century while he was parked at the Villager Mall on Park Street. He decided to go to a bar with the men, and allowed one to drive his car. On the way to the nightclub, he says they picked up two more guys. As they were about to enter the bar's parking lot on Applegate Road, he says the driver stopped and ordered him to get out. At the same time, one of they guys in the backseat pulled out a gun and demanded he turn over his money and cell phone. He did that, and the men stole his car. On Saturday morning, around 7:30 a.m. the victim re-contacted the MPD, saying he had called his cell phone and had arranged to get his car back from the thieves. He was to give them $500 for the car, instead - when he met with them near Darbo Drive - they just took his money. A few hours later, just past 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning, Madison Police officers spotted his car driving on Taft Street. One officer turned on lights and siren, and attempted to stop the Buick, but just as that happened, the car crashed into a light pole on Beld Street. Two occupants bolted, and were not caught.
